An Assistant Accountant provides support to internal and external customers and will work predominately either as an assistant accountant within practise or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation. Part of their role will involve assisting in the day to day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements. In addition, the Assistant Accountant may find themselves involved in regulatory financial requirements such as the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations.
What will you learn?
Advanced Accounting Techniques
- Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets and profit & loss accounts.
- Conduct complex reconciliations for bank, control, and balance sheet accounts.
- Apply advanced bookkeeping methods, such as accruals, prepayments, and journals.
Management Accounting and Reporting
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Analyse variances between actual and budgeted figures.
- Prepare management reports to support decision-making.
Taxation and Compliance
- Understand and apply VAT regulations and procedures.
- Assist in preparing tax returns and ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax legislation and its impact on business operations.
Financial Systems and Software Proficiency
- Utilise accounting software to record transactions and generate reports.
- Ensure data integrity and accuracy within financial systems.
- Adapt to new technologies and software updates in the accounting field.
Professional Ethics and Communication
- Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality agreements in financial matters.
- Communicate financial information clearly to stakeholders.
- Demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of accounting practice.

Apprentices without English or Maths at Level 2 must achieve this prior to taking the end-point assessment.

We can work with you to source a suitable applicant for your business or you can up-skill your existing employees. If the Apprentice is under 19 and your business has less than 50 employees, there will be no cost for the training. If they are over 19 and/or your business has over 50 employees then you will contribute 10% towards the cost of the training.
