An Accounts Finance Assistant is an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within a business. The Accounts/Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with junior accounting duties.

What will you learn?

Financial Systems and Processes

  • Understand how accounting systems are used to record and process financial data.
  • Learn how to manage accounts payable and receivable processes.
  • Use spreadsheets and software packages to support finance tasks.

Core Accounting Techniques

  • Master basic bookkeeping, including double-entry and reconciliation.
  • Understand principles of cash and banking procedures.
  • Produce basic financial reports and summaries.

Professional Ethics and Legal Awareness

  • Understand confidentiality, integrity, and ethical finance practices.
  • Recognise key legal frameworks such as GDPR and financial regulations.
  • Act in line with organisational policies and professional standards.

Communication and Personal Effectiveness

  • Communicate clearly with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Present financial information in a structured and understandable way.
  • Demonstrate time management, adaptability, and teamwork.

Business Environment Awareness

  • Understand the structure and role of different types of organisations.
  • Appreciate how finance supports business operations and decision-making.
  • Recognise how external factors (e.g., economic or regulatory changes) impact finance functions.

Can I apply
for this course?

The entry requirement for this apprenticeship will be decided by each employer, but may typically be five GCSEs at Grade C or higher.

Some of the requirements may be:

  • Typically have five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or higher.
  • Have ordinarily been a resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
  • Have English and Maths or equivalent at Grade C/4 or higher. 
  • Be able to meet the programme modules through their job role.

Looking to empower your current staff?

Hiring an Accounts or Finance Assistant Apprentice to support your business’s needs.

We can work with you to source a suitable applicant for your business or you can up-skill your existing employees. If the Apprentice is under 19 and your business has less than 50 employees, there will be no cost for the training. If they are over 19 and/or your business has over 50 employees then you will contribute 10% towards the cost of the training.
